Animazoo award Gypsy Motion Capture System as first prize to Mexico City based animation teacher

PRESS RELEASE
For immediate release

11th September 2006

Animazoo award Gypsy Motion Capture System as first prize to Mexico City based animation teacher.

Animazoo UK Ltd (http://www.animazoo.com), a Brighton based manufacturer of motion capture systems, in association with leading software provider Autodesk®, announce the winner of the `create a 3d character' competition published in 3D World magazine in May 2006.

To celebrate the launch the Gypsy5 motion capture range, Animazoo challenged 3D World readers to create their own rigged and skinned character with a polygon count of less than 5,000; a restriction that insured the creativity of contestants would shine through. Competition was fierce with many excellent entries and after much deliberation first prize of a Gypsy5-Torso motion capture system complete with Autodesk MotionBuilder 7.5® software, is awarded to Mexico City-based animation teacher, Miguel Salinas.

With a combined prize value of over US$20,000 Jim Thacker, Editor of 3D World magazine said `The Gypsy5-Torso motion-capture suit and copy of MotionBuilder 7.5® were the most valuable competition prize we have ever given away in 3D World, and we're delighted to have worked with Animazoo and Autodesk on the contest. There were some excellent entries, but Miguel Salinas's striking character design and texture work makes him a worthy winner'.

Chosen for his 3d character creation `See Feram', Salinas said `It's the first time that I have ever won first place and also the first time that someone in Mexico has won this kind of contest'.

The system will give his students their first experience of motion capture technology. "I'll use the GypsyTorso to show my students something that we always dreamed of. Now that dream is a reality and we can work to make our projects more sophisticated" he said.

Ali Kord, Managing Director of Animazoo UK said "We congratulate Mr. Salinas for achieving such high quality work - it was a tough brief. We are pleased the system will be used as a teaching tool, helping to improve the accessibility of motion capture technology to the next generation of character animators".

The 2 competition runners up are San Diego resident, Joe Philips and Sobolev Vasilyevich of Kazakhstan. Each will each receive a half day capture session at Animazoo UK's Brighton-based studio.
